Description

#12557 was ordered new by UK importer Maranello Concessionaires on the 28th April 1969, on behalf of Ferrari main dealer Rob Walker Cars - confirmed by Factory order confirmation on 7th May 1969. It was ordered in the colours of blue tourbillon with beige leather interior - the colours it still wears today.

This 365 GTC was not completed until the following year, the car being invoiced to Rob Walker Cars on the 20th May 1970. It was registered with the number RWV 66H which it has retained to date. The next owner, Mr Khoury of London, acquired the car on the 26th July 1971 from Maranello Concessionaires at a cost of £5,000 - invoice on file. Maranello Concessionaires were used for maintenance work and there is interesting correspondence between Khoury and Mike Salmon of Maranello in the history file.

6 years later the car was auctioned where it was bought on the 25th April 1977 by Brian Classic. An established dealer he re-sold the car on a few days later to a Dr Bryn Williams who painted the car red. In 1979 Williams exchanged the car for a Ferrari Daytona at Ferrari specialist Modena Engineering. Modena sold #12557 to a local enthusiast and well known Ferrari collector - John Baynes.

On the 10th March 1984 John Baynes sold the car to John Dooley who would cherish 12557 for the next 22 years. In 2006 Bob Houghton Ltd bought the car and subsequently sold it to John Manfredi, and 3 years later bought it back from him.

The penultimate owner, a fastidious and knowledgeable collector who has owned many great cars over the years bought the car from Bob Houghton in November 2009 and commissioned them to complete a full restoration. This restoration completed in 2011 at a cost of £200k and is fully documented and detailed with invoicing on file and illustrated by photographs taken throughout the process.

Since completion the car was used very sparingly and only ever in suitable conditions, the mileage rising from 40,602 in 2011 to 41,256 in 2020. However, lack of use has not meant lack of maintenance, the car has been returned to Bob Houghton Ltd for regular maintenance as detailed in invoicing on file.

In 2022 the car was sold by DK Engineering to another discerning collector and the mileage currently reads at 42,967.

The GTC comes with a highly comprehensive history file, the red Classiche book, toolkit, original manual, original working radio and all keys.

The car as recently returned to DK where it received a major service and bare metal re-spray resulting in the car's faultless, stunning condition today.

In 1968 Ferrari updated 330 GTC with a 4.4-litre engine and renamed the model to 365 GTC. The larger engine increased low end torque and offered 20 additional horsepower. Only 168 of the interim 365 GTC were produced as it was deemed uneconomic to accomodate new emissions legislation prior to the launch of the 365 GTC/4. They are all easily identified from the 330 GTC by their engine vents placed at the end of the front bonnet hood.

A real connoisseur's Ferrari, these rare models with their muscular 4.4 litre V12 engines are even today superlative GT cars and feature in some special Ferrari collections.
