Introduced in 1999, the Ferrari 360 Modena was the replacement for the popular and capable Ferrari F355. Whereas the F355 was based on a heavily revised Ferrari 348 platform, the 360 was an entirely new car.

Faster, better-handling, and more user-friendly than the outgoing model, the 360 was clothed in an aerodynamic Pininfarina body deviating from more recent Ferrari traditions of sharp angles and pop-up headlights. An aluminum space frame chassis replaced steel and was both lighter and stiffer. A 3.6-liter V-8 engine located amidships utilized a flat-plane crankshaft and titanium connecting rods to generate 395 hp. Suspension was comprised of new double wishbones and coil springs, paired with adaptive shocks.

Starting with the 348 in 1993, Ferrari created a single-marque race series for amateur and semi-professional racing drivers. The Challenge series would prove popular with customers, and continued with the 348’s successors. The 360 appeared in Challenge form in 2000 featuring alterations that made it a track-only race car, a few of which also found their way into the FIA GT Championship.

In 2003, Ferrari launched the 360 Challenge Stradale, a lighter and more focused version of the 360 Modena inspired by the Challenge model. From the outset, the engineers designed the car with 20% track day use and 80% road use in mind; weighing almost 250 lbs. less than the Modena, modifications included revised aerodynamics, a de-contented interior with lightweight carbon-fiber racing seats, carbon-ceramic brakes, a revised F1 semiautomatic gearbox that executed shifts more quickly, and a 25 hp increase in power. The car’s performance proved superior to a regular 360 Modena – according to Ferrari, the car was 3.5 seconds per lap faster around the Fiorano test track.

The Challenge Stradale offered here is finished in a rare color scheme for the model, with Rosso Corsa (Racing Red) paint and an interior trimmed in black leather with contrasting red stitching, rather than the more commonly seen Alcantara. Delivered new through Ferrari Maserati of Vancouver, where it was meticulously maintained until 2015, other factory options include a hi-fi sound system, leather headliner and rear parcel shelf, fire extinguisher, painted brake calipers, and the most appropriate Italian Tricolore stripe. Today, this well-maintained three-owner car is accompanied by its original car cover, a set of owner’s manuals, a tool kit, a space-saver spare wheel, and service invoices.

The 360 Challenge Stradale is perhaps the most admired of Ferrari’s contemporary special-edition mid-engine sports cars because of its exhilarating dual-purpose nature, magnificent exhaust note, and relatively limited production. This unusually equipped example, having covered less than 10,000 km (6,200 miles) from new, and presented in generally excellent condition, stands ready to deliver incredible performance and outstanding dynamics for its new owner.
