Description
The Ferrari 348 replaced the 328 in 1989 and remained in production until 1995. It was the final V8 mid-engine model developed by Enzo Ferrari before his death.
The engine was equipped with a dry-sump oil system, which reduced the risk of lack of lubrication at high speeds and during hard cornering. The oil level could only be accurately checked on the dipstick when the motor was running.
Fifty-seven ‘Challenge’ models were built for owners who wanted a more ‘track-ready’ car.
Similar to the Testarossa, the oil and coolant radiators are located close to the centre by the intake cooling ducts instead of at the front, as in earlier models. This gave a slightly wider body but it made the cabin much easier to cool since hoses routing warm oil and water to the radiators no longer ran underneath the cabin.
The model name’s first two digits – 34 – refer to the volume of the engine and the last digit – 8 – refers to the number of cylinders. The engine is mounted longitudinally and coupled to a transverse manual gearbox. TS is the designation for Targa.
Between 1991 and 1992, a number of owners allowed Zagato to upgrade their 348 TBs to Zagato Elaboraziones. The changes were all cosmetic and the engine and transmission remained the same.
This specific 348 TS has only covered 2500 km for new!, the car even has some of the original plastic attached from when it left the factory.
