Description

  • Ferrari’s attractive 1980s 328 GTS, featuring a “targa”-style removable roof
  • Finished in the classic colour pairing of Rosso Corsa over a tan leather interior
  • Odometer shows only 7,008 km at the time of cataloguing
  • Offered for sale with a leather tool roll and spare wheel

The mid-engine platform and curvaceous design lines of the Ferrari 328 evoke elements of the 1960s-designed Dino-badged cars, forging the model a reputation as a stylish modern sports car from Maranello. Entering production in 1985, the attractive shape of the 328 was penned by Pininfarina—which carefully balanced visual appeal with emerging research into drag coefficient and aerodynamic lift characteristics—all the while staying true to Ferrari’s design language. Available as either the “Gran Turismo Berlinetta”—commonly known as the 328 GTB—or with the "targa"-style removable roof as the “Gran Turismo Spider”, or GTS, both models are highly collectible today.

In addition to its timeless looks, the 328 was heralded by contemporary road-testers as an impressive driver’s car. The GTB and GTS shared a 3.2-litre V-8 engine rated at 270 horsepower, mated to a five-speed gated manual gearbox, though performance did differ slightly between the models. The 328 GTS boasted a top speed of 262 km/h, with a 0 to 97 km/h time of 5.9 seconds, slightly slower than its GTB sister model, but more than making up for it with the option of open-top motoring. Ferrari made 6,068 examples of the 328 GTS, with the 328 GTS Turbo introduced later in smaller numbers, before the unveiling of the 348.

This example was manufactured in 1989, finished by the Ferrari factory in Rosso Corsa. Imported into France by the Parisian marque specialist, Charles Pozzi, the 328 GTS was first registered in the country in June 1989. Today, it presents in attractive configuration with its tan leather interior, while the odometer reads only 7,008 km at the time of cataloguing. An ideal first-time Ferrari, the best examples of the 328 can be enjoyed as a truly analogue, mid-engined driving experience, and are much easier to work on than their successors. Low-mileage examples such as this are becoming increasingly difficult to find, meaning that this 328 GTS—offered with a tool roll and spare wheel—should be considered by potential suitors as a highly collectible example of the classic model.
