Description
MATCHING NUMBER, EXTREMELY WELL DOCUMENTED. This Ferrari by Bertone has finally made it to the Collection Gallery by Unknown Charlotte. Privately Owned & Curated - Extremely well documented. This superb USA example comes from long-time Ferrarista ownership, and has been extensively modified by Carobu Engineering to 3.5 litres and 270 horsepower. Mechanically sorted and exhilarating to drive, this car won’t disappoint in its performance, looks, or documentation to boot, it still remains a full numbers-matching example.

This Ferrari was manufactured by Ferrari SpA, Maranello, Italy in 1979 for the US market. The original specification was Rosso Chiaro 20-r-190 with Beige VM3218 hide and tan carpets. The Ferrari Dino GT4 was a groundbreaking model for Ferrari in several ways: it was the first production Ferrari to feature the mid-engined V8 layout that would become the bulk of the company's business in the succeeding decades, and was the first production Ferrari with Bertone (rather than Pininfarina) designed bodywork. Pininfarina was upset by the decision to give cross-town rival Bertone the design, considering all they had done for Ferrari. The styling featured angular lines entirely different from its curvaceous 2-seater brother, the Dino 246, and was controversial at the time. Some journalists compared it to the Bertone-designed Lancia Stratos and Lamborghini Urraco, also penned by Marcello Gandini. From the cockpit the driver sees only the road. Enzo Ferrari himself took a major role in its design. the GT4 proved to be a splendid sports GT with sharp handling and excellent road manners, thanks to its short wheelbase, 240/255 horsepower engine, and gated shifter manual gearbox. A two-liter ‘tax saver’ variant, unique to the Italian market, made its debut in 1976 and still remains the smallest engine to ever be put in any Ferrari.
