Description

The Ferrari 308 GTB's are mid-engined sports cars manufactured by the Italian company Ferrari in the 1970's - 1980's. They made up the lower end of the company's range. The 308 replaced the Dino 246 in 1975 and was updated as the 328 in 1985. Introduced in 1975 at the Paris Auto Salon, Pinninfarina's take on the 308 is a more curvaceous and exotic looking car than Bertone's 308 GT4. The 308 as a car is an icon for the 1980's made famous as the daily user of Hawaiian PI Thomas Magnum in the famous TV hit series Magnum P.I, although that car was the Targa top version. This epitomises the sports car of the day. Since then, the car has been the desired affordable acquisition of any 1980's boy whose bedroom wall would have been plastered with posters of this car. This particular dry sump oil car was finished in black with black leather interior and was bought by US race mechanic (its second owner) early in its life. Upon importing it to the USA he discovered that, due to its modifications, it was not homologated for street use, being somewhere in between a road can and a full out track car. He was unsure what to do with it and therefore remained in storage unused for 25 years. Due to the fact that the car was not adapted in any way, it remains the only one of six that was not turned into a full track car. It was then purchased by its third owner, an Austrian, who ordered a full re-commissioning mechanical refreshing to be carried out to the highest standards. The car has currently covered around 35,700 genuine kilometres. These 308's are extremely rare by virtue because of the minute number that were produced, and anything of limited numbers has attracted collectors in the last few years.
