The Ferrari 250 GT/L, with "L" signifying Lusso (meaning "luxury" in English), is often described as the ultimate evolution of the long-wheelbase 250 series. Although the Lusso was tuned more for road comfort than for racing performance, Ferrari integrated several elements from the successful 250 GT SWB competition cars.
The chassis was derived from the SWB’s tubular steel frame, though with modifications tailored for road use. Both models employed a double wishbone independent front suspension with coil springs. The rear suspension setup was also similar, featuring a live axle with semi-elliptical leaf springs. However, the Lusso’s suspension was optimized for a more refined and comfortable driving experience, contrasting with the SWB’s stiffer, race-oriented configuration. Like the SWB, the Lusso was equipped with advanced four-wheel disc brakes, offering significantly improved stopping power and reliability compared to the earlier drum brakes used on previous Ferrari models.
Both the Lusso and SWB shared a four-speed manual transmission with synchromesh, though the Lusso had longer gear ratios, better suited for high-speed cruising rather than the SWB’s short, quick shifts ideal for track use.
While the Lusso borrowed key components from its racing-focused sibling, Ferrari reoriented its setup to prioritise luxury, comfort, and long-distance road driving. It remains one of the finest-driving 3.0-liter Colombo V12 Ferraris. Considering the astronomical values of SWBs and GTOs today, the Lusso can be seen as a more attainable and luxurious grand touring counterpart to its race-focused siblings.

This Motorcar
This is the 62nd of the 350 Ferrari 250 Lussos ever built, with a history dating back to its production in 1963. The car was first ordered by Mrs. Botticini from Brescia and delivered to the renowned Ferrari dealer Crepaldi in Milan, Italy. Two years later, it was sold to its second owner, Mr. Serotti, who owned the car for three years before it was imported to the United States. It was then acquired by its third owner, Mr. Granata of Pennsylvania, who kept the car for 30 years until 1998. Afterward, the car was sold and exported to Sweden by its fourth owner, Mr. Berg.
During Mr. Berg's ownership, the Ferrari underwent a complete restoration, finished in a Celeste Metallizzato exterior over a Nero leather interior. The bodywork restoration was expertly handled by the renowned workshop Bacchelli & Villa, while the mechanical components and engine were fully overhauled by Sportauto Dienna. The interior was meticulously restored by Luppi, a renowned Ferrari interior specialist. As a result, this Ferrari 250 Lusso is an exceptional example, having been professionally restored and revised by top specialists. In 2004, Ferrari awarded the car its Classiche Certification, verifying its matching numbers and originality. Later, in 2007, renowned Ferrari historian Marcel Massini inspected the car and issued a detailed report, which is included in the sale.
Later, Under the Swedes ownership, the engine received an upgrade to 250 SWB SEFAC specification. These upgrades included Testa Rossa cylinder heads, high-lift Tipo 130 camshafts, larger intake tracts, two-piece large-diameter exhaust headers, and Weber 46 DCF/3 carburetors. For those wishing to return the engine to its original specification, all the original parts that were replaced are included in the sale.
In 2022, after 25 years of ownership, Mr. Berg sold the car to a Dutch collector. Although it was already near perfect, the new owner made a few final tweaks to bring it to 100%. The differential was renovated, and a full service was performed. Due to the collector's brief ownership period, the car retained its Swedish registration. Now, as it comes time to sell, the collector has carefully chosen to sell the car through us at MOTIKON, Sweden based specialists in classic cars.
To conclude, we present a "concours condition" example of one of the most beautiful Ferraris ever produced. With its SWB engine upgrades, the car drives superbly and is a true joy to experience. Included in the sale are the original user manual, original engine parts, Ferrari Classiche Red Book, the Marcel Massini history report, and various other documentation.
