We have a splendidly authentic Auto Union DKW 1000S De Luxe Coupe. Supplied new in the Netherland and first registered on the 9th April 1964. This lovely ‘pillarless’ coupe has had three owners. The first owner kept the car until the 12th March 1965. The second owner hung on to the car considerably longer, until the 10th October 2014, some 49 years! We sold the car to its last owner in 2015. The three-cylinder two-stroke engine was fully rebuilt in 2015 by a Dutch DKW specialist. Since the rebuild the car has run less than 2,500 km. Mechanically speaking the car is in excellent running order. This rebuild is also fully documented. The DKW is fitted with the typical DKW freewheel and the so-called ‘Thermosifon’ cooling system, a cooling system without a water pump. The achieve maximum cooling the top part of the radiator remained unpainted (messing). The radiator is original and was in supply up to 1960. The bodywork is superbly original and unrestored. The paintwork is more or less fully original and with a nice and thin cover it is still in a great condition. The interior trim is also original and has a lovely patina; even the rubber matting is whole and has not dried up. The driving characteristics of a two-stroke are fantastic and deliver a lot of motoring joy. Just hearing the engine note is pure pleasure. We seldom see cars over 50 years old that are in such original condition. We are not exaggerating and fully justified in feeling that this car is something a little bit special!
