Introduced in 1921 when the French brand will experience its first "golden age", the Delage DE represents the first level of the range, an alternative to the classic models usually more powerful and more expensive. The new DE chassis is lighter and more modern. Two wheelbases are available, 2.98 m and 3.18 m. This new model is also equipped with a more economical engine, a 4 cylinder of 2116 cm3 delivering 32 dynamic horsepower, both smooth and silent. The Delage DE was equipped with a 4-speed gearbox and drum brakes on all four wheels, which was not yet the norm at the time. As always, the French manufacturer only delivers the motorized chassis. It was then up to the best makers such as Belvalette or Labourdette to dress them. The DE will be a real commercial success.
Like the Talbot DC, it was in 1979 that Monsieur B bought his Delage DE, then owned by a collector from Lyon. It joins the other Delage in the collection, acquired ten years earlier. Like almost all of his cars, Monsieur B will take care of fully restoring his Delage, with the exception of the brown leather upholstery which seems to be original and superbly weathered. Once this “intelligent” restoration was completed in 1982, Mr. B noted down over the years all the oil changes, revisions and changes following the mileage of his Delage. In 23 years, he will have driven nearly 20,000 km at his wheel, with a few long trips, in particular to England and Spain in the 90s. These notes are accompanied by old photos, invoices and technical checks which constitute the car file. Always well maintained and kept dry, this Delage looks great and will hopefully still provide a lot of fun and satisfaction to the next owner who sits on board.
