In 1938, the Delage factory exported chassis #51381, a D6/70, to the UK. Few cars were exported to Great Britain, a country where national preference played an important role. Delivered to the Coach Craft workshops in London, it was bodied as a two-door, five-seater cabriolet based on a Henri Chapron design.
Its current owner bought it from a London dealer in 1985, but the car was then in poor condition. It was decided to send it directly to André Lecoq. The mechanics were sent to Meca Précis. During the restoration, the car was reconfigured as a 3.0 Olympic. The engine was re-bored to three litres, fitted with three Solex 40 carburettors, and the axle ratio was lengthened.
A striking green colour was chosen for the bodywork. Matching upholstery and soft top complete the package. The restoration was completed at the end of 1988.
Our collector, and more particularly his wife, took part in numerous rallies throughout Europe with this Delage. It even went as far as Syria, always by road.
Stored away in 2020, this Delage will need a good overhaul before taking to the road again with peace of mind.
