Description
The Majestic Major introduced in 1960 was a development of the original Majestic and the first Daimler introduced after the company had been taken over by Jaguar and also the last Daimler not using Jaguar components. Brand enthusiasts therefore consider it the “last true Daimler”. Whereas the Major from 1958 was still powered by an inline 6 with 3.8 litre, the Majestic Major was powered by the Edward Turner designed V8 engine with 4.6 litre which, in its initial guise, resembled the engine used in the Daimler SP 250 from 1959 with 2.5 litre capacity. Until the end of its construction in 1968 only 1’180 examples of the noble Brit had been completed. The car offered, clothed in a “Empress II” special coachwork by Hooper is still rarer than the already not very numerous Majestic Major. Only two such bodies were built, one being delivered to the Buckingham Palace, and the car shown here originally owned by lady Docker. Equipped with a sliding roof, power steering, top quality leather and folding tables to the rear, the saloon was certainly worthy of a “Lord of the Manor”. In 1981 the Daimler was acquired by a German enthusiast. He had the car completely disassembled and the wooden framework checked and freshly impregnated following by a repaint of the coachwork panels. In 1986 he sold the car to the then castle owner from Bad Zurzach who in turn sold it to a restaurant owner from Staad in 2002. In 2007 the new owner had the complete electrical system and the interior renewed. As is shown in a photographic record from the time, the coachwork was also restored again. Receipts for maintenance and restoration work exceeding 59’000 Swiss francs since 2001 are available. In 2012, the noble saloon was sold to a new owner in the Thurgau Canton before finally being taken over by the current owner in 2017 and added to his collection. Since 2010, when the mileage had been recorded in the cars documentation, the imposing Majestic Major has only covered 6’000 miles and still present itself in very good and well maintained condition. The extremely rare saloon also boasts a FIVA ID and will be sold to a new owner with the last Veteran MOT from April 2023.
