The Daimler DB18 was produced by Daimler from 1939 until 1953. It is a 2½ litre version of the preceding 2.2 litre New Fifteen introduced in 1937. From 1949, the DB18 was revised to become the Daimler Consort. Using the engine developed for the Daimler Scout Car, it was offered to customers from 1939 as a six-cylinder chassis on which Daimler and various British coach builders offered a range of bodies including drophead coupes. The Consort became a popular car among the wealthy in India. Altogether, over 100 cars were ordered, mainly by the Maharajas in India and a further dozen were ordered by Royalty in Ceylon and Burma.

This rare 'Woody' shooting brake is believed to be the only remaining example and is finished in black coachwork with a contrasting black vinyl roof and refurbished ash framework. The interior is trimmed with brown leather seats, wooden dashboard, door cards and reclining rear seat and is fitted a preselect gearbox. FWD 849 is a well-known car in 'Woody' circles having attended many classic vehicle events in the Southwest and appearing in classic publications including Tailgate issue 69-2014, where it appeared in an article that was featured on the front cover. FWD 849 has an accompanying history file which contains correspondence from Daimler including a letter dated 1947, receipts, past MoT test certificates, magazine articles and ephemera.
