Description

Positioned at the top of Chrysler’s 1931 six-cylinder offerings was the Series 70, powered by the larger, 268 cid inline six-cylinder, which delivered a respectable 93 hp. This series also employed the longer 116.5" wheelbase chassis with the example offered here fitted with attractive business coupe coachwork, one of just 766 produced and originally priced at $1,345. As a later-production Series 70 model, it incorporates the attractive V-angled front grille, a styling cue linking it to the upscale Imperial models. Designed for intimate touring for two, the rear deck houses an enclosed trunk, which provides ample luggage space for long journeys, in place of the more common rumble seat.

The current owner acquired the Coupe in 2009 and enlisted Mark Seybold of Graveyard Run Restorations of Bradyville, Tennessee, for its complete restoration. The car features beige paintwork accented by a brown tone used on the beltline, grille, and fenders. Painted wire wheels, whitewall tires, dual rearview mirrors and horns, twin side-mounted spares, and the traditional Chrysler gazelle hood ornament complete the presentation. The interior cabin is finished in a matching tan tone.

As part of a collection of 1930s Chryslers, this Series 70 Coupe has been well cared-for and driven sparingly since restoration. As presented, it is ready to be enjoyed and appreciated as an ideal representation of Chrysler’s early automotive excellence.
