Established in Detroit in 1924, by 1931 the Chrysler Corporation was placed ninth in the sales table for North America and was building a reputation for powerful, high-quality cars. This was enhanced by success in stock car racing and, in 1931, by an appearance at Le Mans with a stripped-down version of one of the new 8-cylinder models. The same year, Chrysler offered more models than ever before, with a new range of 8-cylinder models to run alongside the existing 6-cylinder cars.
