Description

Engine No. 0006098F56Z

Applauded for their spectacular early 1940s styling and innovative engineering, Chevrolet was very much aheapd of the competition by 1941. Hollywood stars alike were seen driving Chevys, such as Spencer Tracy, America's favorite movie star at the time, who was given a new 1941 model as part of Chevrolet promotional efforts. Nineteen forty-one also marked the final full year of production, before GM along with other US auto manufacturers would shift to aiding the war effort. Of the more than one million vehicles produced by Chevrolet for the 1941 model year, just about 2,045 of those were the luxurious Woodie Station Wagon as seen here – the most expensive vehicle in Chevrolet's lineup in 1941. These rare Station Wagons were optioned with the upscale Special De Luxe trim package featuring exquisite detail to both exterior and interior. Built to accommodate eight passengers, amenities included wood grain dash and door tops, oak-slat headliner, luxurious upholstery, full carpeting, foot scraper-topped running boards, spot lamp, fog lights, and attractive "shark tooth" hubcaps.

The spectacularly well-restored example of the rare 1941 Chevrolet Special De Luxe Woodie Station Wagon offered here was acquired by the previous owner from Stan Little near Palm Springs, California in 1995, and boasts multiple awards, including Best of Show at the 2004 Santa Barbara Woodies Meet. As is evident upon close inspection, the Station Wagon has benefited from an extensive restoration, which was recounted in the March 2006 issue of Woodie Times magazine. During the restoration, the frame was replaced due to corrosion issues and the engine was upgraded to a later unit, yielding slightly more horsepower. A host of local craftsmen were commissioned to assist in the wood, metal, paint, upholstery, and mechanical tasks required for this show-winning restoration. The results of this effort can be seen throughout the vehicle. The exterior Ruby Maroon paint shines to perfection, neatly contrasted by the highly polished exceptional woodwork throughout the car. The interior features a remarkable light brown interior, stunning Art Deco-like dash treatment fitted with the optional radio and tissue dispenser. The accompanying history file contains many old California state registration cards, magazine articles, photos before the restoration was undertaken, and some restoration receipts.

This rare 1941 Chevrolet Special De Luxe Woodie Station Wagon would be an ideal form of transportation for family outings to the ranch or beach, or a strong contender to further campaign at Woodie club events.
