Description

Chassis No. 194678S419783

Engine No. T0515IL 18S419783

Introduced for the 1968 model year, the third-generation (C3) Corvette featured a shapely new exterior heavily inspired by the Mako Shark II concept designed by Larry Shinoda. This new generation also delivered a completely redesigned interior that would help the third-generation Corvette set new sales records for General Motors. Available in either Coupe or Convertible models, the curvaceous exterior design is highlighted by the signature pop-up headlights that were concealed via a vacuum-operated system. Utilizing many of the already well-proven chassis components from the previous generation, the C3 offered independent suspension along with a slate of powerful V8 engines.

Restored prior to current ownership, this Corvette Convertible is powered by Chevrolet's famous "L36" 427 cu-in 390 horsepower "big block" engine. According to the engine serial number stamp, this Turbo-Jet" engine was built at the Tonawanda, New York plant on 15 May 1968. Perhaps just as important as a big block engine, this Convertible features a Muncie four-speed manual transmission for maximum driving involvement. In fact, following a test drive by a Broad Arrow Group Car Specialist, they report that this example starts quickly and easily, the choke operates as it should, and the engine comes down to idle smoothly. Additional notes made during the test drive were as follows: the transmission shifted nicely, the clutch grabbed confidently, the soft top and rear clamshell operated as they should and it was a pleasure to drive this Corvette in both configurations.

Truly an American icon, the Corvette's third generation is favored by many as one of the most accessible and dependable offerings of America's most famous sports car. This particular example finished in Corvette Bronze over a Black upholstered interior is offered with an owner's manual, jack, and lug nut wrench.
