Description

The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, introduced in 1963 as the first generation Corvette turned ten years old. GM kicked off the C2 generation with the first coupe version of America's favourite sports car. For avid collectors, No Corvette holds greater appeal than the Iconic “Split Window.” Only made in the 1963 Model year, before GM changed it to a more usual window design.
Designed by Larry Shinoda under the guidance of Bill Mitchell, The C2 was not only a pretty car but also an aerodynamically efficient one courtesy of its windtunnel designed body. The fibreglass shell of the 1963 Sting Ray rode on a wheelbase four inches shorter than its predecessor, yet its overall length remained nearly unchanged. Another upgrade came in the form of a new ladder-type frame, replacing the older X-type frame. This innovative frame design lowered the car's centre of gravity and enhanced its handling by providing increased stiffness.

In 1963 this particular Stingray was assembled in Chevrolet’s St Louis, Missouri plant, ordered in the beautiful specification of a Daytona blue exterior paint over a dark blue leather-trimmed interior, with leatherette-covered door cards, matching dark blue carpets, and silver-toned gauge rings. Under the bonnet sits a ‘numbers matching’ 327 cubic inch (5.4-litre) small block V8, which produces 250 hp and drives the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission.

The car was delivered new to the Jefferson Chevrolet Company of Detroit Where it was sold to a Albert J Klick. From 1976 until 2016 the car was under the same ownership: A judge for the National Corvette Restorers Society (NCRS). Which explains why the car's been kept in such immaculate condition. The previous owner, a Corvette collector and enthusiast who imported the car from Denmark in 2022, has had the car refinished in its original hue of Daytona Blue. He also notes that the car has been treated to a ‘glass out’ respray, and the interior has been retrimmed. A job well documented with photographs throughout the process.

This Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is a fantastically retained, restored and highly maintained example of the highly collectible 1963 “Split window” Coupes. MOTIKONs team of experts note that it is one of the best examples of a “Split window” that they have ever seen.
