Like the current C8 Z06 Corvette, the 1961 Corvette, when powered by the fuel-injected 315 horsepower engine, was the competition-bred headline-maker of the day. John Dolza's famed Rochester mechanical fuel-injection added 45 horsepower to the 283 cu-in V8 while eliminating fuel starvation on high-speed corners. This engine also required the quick-shifting four-speed synchromesh manual transmission. Little wonder this combination was again SCCA B Production champion. Yet on the street the "Fuelie" engine drove like any other V8, at least until provoked. Stylistically, the 1961 Corvette received a more modern grille treatment with less chrome, and the new four-taillight design hinted at the future of Corvettes to come. It would also be the final year for the 1950s-style wide whitewall tires and the optional two-tone paint treatment with contrasting side coves. At over $5,000 the fuel-injected Corvette was expensive, yet "the price, although high for the average person, assumes a more reasonable perspective when you consider that this particular car will compete quality-wise and performance-wise with foreign production models that cost twice as much and are not nearly as 'drivable' on the street," as Ray Brock in Hot Rod magazine pointed out.

This 1961 Corvette features Honduras Maroon paint with optional Ermine White coves, an uncommon combination (647 were built) that year. The bucket seat interior is in contrasting Faun Beige vinyl. It is one of only 1,462 fuel-injected Corvettes produced in 1961, backed by the required four-speed synchromesh manual transmission. The optional matching removable factory auxiliary hardtop is also fitted. Formerly a part of Leonard Nagel's collection of outstanding Corvettes, this '61 "Fuelie" has earned multiple NCRS Top Flight awards with a best score of 99.5 percent of their "as manufactured" standard. The pinnacle of American performance in 1961, this fuel injected Corvette is presented in excellent restored condition.
