Description
While much has been written about Zora Arkus-Duntov’s quest to turn Chevrolet’s Corvette into a world-beating sports car, the importance of his tireless work cannot be overstated. Soon after joining GM, he not only helped prevent the Corvette’s early demise, he and Chevrolet engineering chief Ed Cole convinced top management to build truly exciting cars, constantly improving them using the lessons learned from competition.
This 1957 Corvette is equipped with the desirable “EL” suffix, Rochester fuelinjected, 283 cid V-8 engine, factory-rated at 283 hp. Just 713 of the 6,339 Corvettes were assembled with this potent, competition-derived engine for 1957, and it was a relatively expensive option, costing $484.20.
Tom Larsen added this Corvette legend to his collection in September 2017, and a previous description on file notes that it was the recipient of a restoration, including a refinish in Onyx Black lacquer paint, now showing slight signs of aging. The Corvette also features visually striking red upholstery, matching carpeting, and period-style, wide, whitewall tires.
Accompanied by a 1957 Corvette operations manual, spare tire, and car cover, this 1957 fuelie represents a fantastic opportunity to acquire a desirable example of one of the most iconic American cars of all time.
