Description
"Launched in 1927, the same year that Ford moved from the Model T to the Model A, the Chevrolet Capitol Tourer was Chevrolet’s attempt to challenge Ford’s dominance. Available in eight body styles, the coachworks were in a similar style to the Chevrolet Superior models; the chassis was also used as a platform for the Chevrolet and GMC trucks of the period.
This 1927 Chevrolet Capitol is of the convertible type and was built by General Motors, Canada and exported to South Africa, and assembled there, as a CKD (complete knock down) motor car in right hand drive format. The Capitol is in remarkable condition for a 91 year old car and retains many original features including the wooden wheels. The original engine, has at some point during its life, been replaced with a more reliable and modern Ford Pinto engine of 1600cc resulting in the car being easier to handle on UK roads. Imported into the UK in 2007, the history file shows that restoration works were carried out, to the chassis, some time ago with photographs supporting this. This example is presented in very good order throughout and has been used as a wedding car; we see no reason why a new owner might not do the same. This Chevrolet comes with its UK V5C registration document, afore mentioned history file and a useful and original 1928 repair manual. This Chevrolet certainly offers something different and would, we believe, provide a lot of fun at a very reasonable entry level into a pre-war motor car.
