Description

Chassis No. 6JPA3841

In 1925, Ford became the first of the Big Three automobile manufacturers to enter the pickup market. However, it was Chevrolet that emerged as the top truck seller in Detroit by the time of World War II. In August 1945, Chevrolet resumed civilian truck production and introduced their new "Advance Design" series of pickups in May 1947. These trucks were wider, longer, and lower than the pre-war models. They featured a modern design with a rear-hinged "alligator" hood that protected the durable 216 cu-in "Stovebolt" inline-six-cylinder. The all-steel construction of the cab, grill, fenders, and hood were all directly mounted to the frame to reduce vibrations. The new Advance Design series proved to be a hit with customers as Chevrolet continued to outsell its competitors even after Ford launched its all-new F-Series in 1948.

The 1950 3100 "Five-Window" on offer was thoroughly restored under previous ownership to its current outstanding presentation. The mechanicals of the truck were upgraded with a slightly more modern and powerful 235 cu-in inline-six while retaining the cosmetics of the original "Stovebolt." The electrical system was also upgraded from six to 12 volts. The body was refinished in era-appropriate Emerald Green, providing an excellent contrast to the numerous chrome accents used throughout the truck on the grille, bumpers, and wheels. The interior of the bed received new, natural stained oak floors and stainless-steel strips with matching removable stake sides. The interior is upholstered in deep chocolate brown with hard-wearing rubber mats covering the floors.

Today, this truck retains numerous period-correct accessories, including an exterior sun visor, a pair of front fog lights, and Firestone whitewall tires. Stellar examples, such as this 1950 Chevrolet 3100 "Five-Window," are highly sought after by enthusiasts and collectors for their simple yet impressive design features and all-American appeal.
