Description

Caterham Cars is a manufacturer of specialist lightweight sports cars and is a direct evolution of the Series III Lotus Seven designed by Colin Chapman originally launched in 1973. Caterham had been a major Lotus Seven dealer during the 1960's and its founder, Graham Nearn, purchased the rights to continue manufacture of the Seven design after Lotus announced its intention to discontinue the model. The Lotus/Caterham Seven is widely regarded by car enthusiasts and the media as one of the most precise handling sports cars ever, with 2007 marking the 50th year of continuous production. As with its Lotus Seven predecessor, Caterhams are constructed of aluminium sheet attached to a tubular steel chassis and all are front engined with rear-wheel drive and two seats. Their extremely high performance is achieved through being lightweight and well balanced rather than from having particularly powerful engines.

Ordered in kit form in August 1999, the buyer, Mr. Ian Forshew took delivery of the car soon after, at his home in Dorking. The build of the car was completed and was on the road by March of the following year. Ordered without compromise, it was specified with the more expensive De-Dion rear suspension and 1800cc K-Series Rover engine mated to a five-speed gearbox. Other extras include; FIA rollbar, battery master switch, four-point harness seatbelts, aero filler cap, immobiliser, quick release Momo steering wheel leather adjustable seats and weather equipment. Having been part of not one, but two large collections in recent years, the car is now for sale due to a lack of use. The vendor reports the car to run and drive very well providing “smiles for miles” with its punchy 1800cc engine and famously good handling.

Supplied with its V5 registration document, MoT test certificate which expires in May 2025 and an impressive history file. Always popular and offering unrivalled' bang for your buck', the Caterham Seven still embarrasses much more expensive machinery both on the road and track. Consigned by Will Penrose
