Cadillac introduced the V-8-powered Model 353 in September 1929 as the successor to the Series 341. The 353 was manufactured for 13 months before the subsequent Series 355 arrived. In a little over a year, Cadillac sold the 353 in 18 different body configurations, including seven designs by Fisher and 11 by Fleetwood. Compared to its predecessor, the front track of the Model 353 was widened by 3", and the Cadillac required a larger radiator due to the new 5.8-liter V-8 engine.

Seldom seen with custom Fleetwood coachwork, this 353 wears an All-Weather Phaeton body more typically reserved for the range-topping V-16 model. Sold new via Inglis M. Uppercu Cadillac Corporation in Newark, New Jersey, this Cadillac was immediately exported to France, though its early history there is unknown.

The All-Weather Phaeton was acquired in France in 1960 by Leonard Pool, a car collector based in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Upon Mr. Pool’s passing in 1975, fellow Allentown resident Bernie Berman acquired the car and re-exported it to France, intending to exhibit the V-8 Cadillac in concours events and pilot it in FIVA rallies.

Today, the Cadillac presents in fascinating unrestored condition and it is believed that the Phaeton retains its original interior and much of its original maroon and brown paint. For the collector looking to experience an authentic, unrestored, Classic Era Cadillac, the search ends here.
