Description
To mark the 50th anniversary of the brand, Buick introduced the luxurious Roadmaster Skylark which was their most prestigious model.
During the same period the other General Motors brands also introduced top of the line convertibles , Cadillac Series 62 Eldorado and the Oldsmobile 98 Fiesta to show their leadership in design.
The Buick was the most successful model out of these three cars and produced 1690 Skylarks during a 2 year period.
Of the three, the Skylark proved the most successful, and an amazing result considering the car's 1953 list price of slightly in excess of US$5,000 was around three times the average price of a car at that time. The skylark 1953 was the first buick with the nailhead 5.3 liter v8 engine as well as a 12 Volt electrical system.
It came with many options such as power windows, power brakes, full carpeting, and a "Selectronic" AM radio, power steering and power assisted brakes.
Sales proved to be poor, reflecting the Skylark's continued high price coupled with a perceived step-down from the Roadmaster/Super series, slumping far enough to cause the model's cancellation at the end of the 1954 model year.
We believe the car was originally delivery new to the state of Maryland USA.
in 2009 the Buick Skylark was imported into Australia where the engine, and other moving parts were entirely restored by a specialist.
In 2016 the car was imported to the Netherlands and is now a Dutch registered car. A new fuel pump was recently installed.
The car drives beautifully and has many features which normally one would not expect from a car of its era. with the huge amount of space this buick is a great car to use and enjoy with the entire family. The history file is complete and comes with manuals and many spare parts.
A rare and fun car to drive and no doubt a unique investment for the American car enthusiast.
