Description

For sale is a lovely 1927 Bugatti Type 37A tribute painstakingly build over 15 years by a keen Bugatti enthusiast.
The Bugatti Type 37 was introduced late in 1925 and only 286 Type 35s were produced at Molsheim, of these, just 76 were of the Supercharged variant, the Type 37A.
The Type 37A with supercharged engine was presented less than two years after the introduction of the Type 37 and quite a difference did the Roots Supercharger make: Speeds of up to 120MPH and capable of taking on machinery with much more power than the 1.5 Litre, 4 cylinder engine would entail: Grand Prix racing, Targa Florio, Le Mans, Mille Miglia to name a few. All these events saw the Type 37A battling it out with much more powerful machinery, and often with Bugatti gaining the upper hand.

This particular Bugatti T37A was finished in late 1999, a project that by then had taken almost 15 years to finish. It was build in Denmark by a well known and respected vintage car and Bugatti enthusiast. The owner of other fine pre-war french cars, among them Bugattis, the build of this 37A was truly a labour of love.
The build comprises solely parts that were sourced from well respected engineering companies in England and France together with used, original Bugatti parts collected at Retromobile and Beaulieu over the years, often with the kind help of Erik Koux using his original Type 37 as a reference. Erik Koux is well known in Bugatti circles and also fabricated the supercharger for this car, as one in a series of five.
The components and the build of the car were accurately outlined in written notes that follow the car.

The Bugatti T37A is build to correct Type 37A Grand Prix specifications with a supercharged 4 cyl. engine of 1486cc capacity.
The engine was assembled by an engineer in Sweden with great Bugatti experience, providing both spares, restoration work and knowledge on Bugattis for the good part of 30-40 years.

The Bugatti T37A comprises:
Crank driven Roots type supercharger with 1:1 ratio
Original Zenith Type H36 carburettor
Type 40 intake manifold
Scintilla Vertex magneto with 37A manual ignition setting
Electric starter fitted
Standard Grand Prix body in aluminium.
The steering box is mounted on correct plinth and moved back to make room for supercharger.

Type 35/Type 37A cast alloy spoke wheels with big 330mm diameter brake drums.

Hollow front axle as specified on the Type 35.

Type 37A Dashboard with centrally mounted magneto and correct instruments.
Original Marchal headlights fitted

The Bugatti T37A is ‘on the button’ and ready to be used on the road or track. In recent years it has been used frequently and serviced in the hands of the current owner's mechanic.
Acknowledged by the Bugatti Owners Club and given chassis number BC 045 which allows a historic registration.
