Since it´s introduction at the IAA in Frankfurt 2001 this car has been discussed many many times by BMW enthusiasts around the world for two reasons: It has less power than the BMW Z8, on which it is based. The Z8 has the same fantastic V8-engine as the M5(e-39) which produces 400 bhp and 500 NM of torque. They also share the same 6-speed manual gearbox. That drive-train is not easy to better so Alpina chose another way to go; to give the Z8 a whole new character. And the result is the V8 Roadster. Just like the Alpina RLE this Roadster is also a limited-edition, a total of 555 cars will be built. At first it was supposed to be 333 cars but since the deal with BMW NA Alpina increased the number to 555.

The Z8 shares drive-train with the M5. With the exception of the B12 5,7 Coupe, Alpina never work their magic on M-engines. Instead the V8 Roadster uses the same engine as the B10 V8S. However, due to a different exhaust the V8 Roadster produces even more power, 381 bhp at 5800 rpm and 520 NM of torque at 3800 rpm. Between 3100-5000 rpm there are at least 500 NM of torque available. As you can see this is less power than the Z8 produces but more torque which makes it very suitable to the gearbox the engine is connected to. There is an old Alpina saying that goes "We don´t make BMW´s better, we make them different".

the car goes from 0-100 km/h in 5,3 seconds, 0-1000 metres in 24,3 seconds and a limited top speed of 260 km/h.
