Description

Chassis No. WBAEJ13412AH61818

Revealed to the world as the Z07 concept at the 1997 Tokyo motor show, BMW's endeavor to revive the timeless 507 of the 1950s was arguably the most successful example of the "retro-futurism" aesthetic that would captivate the automotive design industry at the turn of the 21st century. The flamboyant and vintage exterior was the work of prolific designer Henrik Fisker, who did not stray far from his initial concept in the design of the production BMW Z8. Equally impressive was Fisker's ability to reinterpret the 507's artful interior into a modern cockpit, with a banjo-style steering wheel comprised of steel spokes, a central instrument pod, brushed aluminum switchgear, and a body-color panel running the full width of the dashboard.

More than just a pretty face, the BMW Z8 boasted the latest performance technology from BMW's revered M division. Its sensuous bodywork and spaceframe chassis were comprised of lightweight aluminum, as were many of the suspension components including its coil-over front and multi-link rear systems. The Z8's beating heart was the 394 horsepower, 4.9-liter V8 from the scorching BMW M5 sedan, allowing a skilled driver rowing through the six-speed manual transmission to achieve zero to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. Best of all, the V8's intoxicating exhaust note could be fully enjoyed thanks to its power-retractable soft top or removable body-color hardtop. Combined with its generous standard equipment including air conditioning, power seats, a Harman Kardon sound system, and ample storage space, the Z8 was the sophisticated touring sports car for the 21st century.

This spectacular BMW Z8, produced on 21 May 2002, is one of 331 examples finished in Black over a Crema/Black Nappa leather interior. Its elegant specification is complemented by a matching black soft top, a factory body-color removable hardtop, and 18-inch split spoke wheels said to have been chromed under original ownership. The original window sticker shows that the car was sold through Long Beach BMW to its first owner, who retained the Z8 for approximately three years and traveled just over 1,100 miles. In February 2005, the car entered the long-term care of its second California-based owner. Over a period of 18 years, its second caretaker diligently maintained the Z8 at BMW of Sherman Oaks, California, for which receipts are on file. In January 2021, showing 8,806 miles, the car also received a replacement passenger-side window regulator, a new front strut brace, and four new Bridgestone Potenza tires by Rusnak BMW at a cost of just over $6,300.

This low-mileage BMW Z8 is ready to be enjoyed for its potent V8 and engaging six-speed manual transmission on quick, twisty roads with the top down. The vehicle is additionally offered with numerous factory accessories including its complete tool roll, owner's manuals, first aid kit, battery tender, hardtop cover, exterior car cover, and more.
