Description
About this Collectable
The BMW M4 is by definition a driver's car. And with a manual gearbox, it is the ultimate BMW for fans of Freude am Fahren. This is one of the few manual shifted examples in the Netherlands, finished in the attractive Mineralweiss Metallic colour.
M4 is a relatively new name, but it is nonetheless a model with a rich history. In 2014, with the M4, BMW introduced the successor to a series of two-door M3 models, all of which became iconic. Unlike the current M4, this F82 generation does not yet have the controversial front end. That makes this BMW a handsome and timeless appearance, while the wide wheel arches, the four exhausts and the power dome on the bonnet still show that this is a very serious car.
The M4 is a lot lighter than its immediate predecessor, the E92 M3. It saves about 80 kg. This is due not only to the engine, but also to the fact that lightweight materials like CFRP and aluminium have been used. The carbon roof not only reduces weight but also lowers the centre of gravity.
With the F82, BMW returned to the six-in-line again. It produces 431 hp, which is available from 5,500 to 7,300 rpm. So that still makes it a high-revving block, despite two turbos. At least as impressive is the torque of 550 Nm, which is already available from 1,800 revs, and then remains available up to 5,390 revs.
The good thing is that in Comfort mode, the M4 is also a pleasant daily driver, thanks to the aforementioned torque. In Sport+ mode, however, the M4 reveals itself as a true M, with a chassis that is perfectly balanced.
What makes this example even more of a driver's car is the fact that this M4 is equipped with the six-speed manual transmission. An M4 with a manual transmission is a real rarity, as there are only a handful of them in the Netherlands. Another advantage is that this version is also about 40 kg lighter than the version with DCT. In addition, this M4 is equipped with H&R springs, which are sportier than the standard suspension and lower the M slightly as well.
When an M4 is finished in white, it is usually Alpinweiss. But this one is finished in Mineralweiss Metallic. This is an exclusive colour, consisting of three layers of paint. To complete the looks, this M4 is fitted with a carbon M Performance spoiler.
In terms of options, you won't be short of anything in this car either, which is equipped with adaptive LED headlights, surround view and Harman Kardon audio, among others. This M4 was delivered new in Germany in 2016 and was imported from Germany by its current owner in 2021.
This Collectable will be auctioned without a reserve price (No Reserve). The highest bidder is therefore also the winner of this auction and can this M4 to the collection.
Our opinion
A manual (recent) M model from BMW. You would expect this to be the standard, but in practice it can be pretty hard to find them. As with Porsche, most owners still order a car like this with the efficient, more for daily (traffic jam) use oriented 'automatic'.
However, what a joy a manual gearbox is, especially in combination with this torque-rich engine. Cruising quietly at 50 km/h in third gear, but if necessary riding a wave of torque, effortlessly accelerating to highly illegal speeds. This is an M4 for the BMW enthusiast who feels that modern M's have perhaps become a little too soft, too docile.
