Description
1990 BMW M3 COUPE SPORT EVOLUTION:
--Jet Black over Anthracite M-Technic Cloth interior, Black carpeting, 2.5 Liter 4-Cylinder, 5-speed manual gearbox, 47,000 Kilometers / 29,000 Miles, Matching Numbers, Rare 1 of 600 Homologated “Evolution” cars produced, Highly original, BMW Heritage Certificate.
The original M3, known to BMW enthusiasts as the E30 M3, was a true homologation special. Through BMW’s racing program in the late 1980s, they were required to build 5,000 road cars in order to compete in Group A racing. In the early 1990s, the FIA allowed “Evolution” models to be homologated with a minimum of 500 cars, resulting in the limited production E30 M3 Evolution I, Evolution II and Sport Evolution (Evolution III) models. The only body panels shared with the E30 M3 from the regular 3-Serie cars were the bonnet, roof, sunroof and door inner panels. Everything else was unique to the M3 and designed for better aerodynamics, speed, handling and more importantly, racing. The result was an incredible success with BMW winning multiple World Touring Car Championships, European Touring Car Championships, and national Touring Car Championships in Germany (DTM), Britain (BTCC), France and Italy.
The third and final version of these homologated Evolution cars is the most powerful with 235bhp and weighing in at just over 2,600 pounds. Only 600 of these Sport Evolutions were produced between December 1989 and March of 1990 with just two colors available, Brilliant Red or Jet Black. Displacement increased on the Sport Evolution from 2.3 Liters to 2.5 Liters. Further enhancements included a more aggressive crankshaft, larger inlet valves and sodium filled exhaust valves, larger exhaust manifold and extra nozzles to help cool the pistons. BMW fitted Red spark plug cables to further identify this special edition. The Sport Evolution has thinner glass, extra cooling ducts, an adjustable rear wing, lower suspension, stiffer springs, uprated shocks, two-tone 16-inch wheels, a longer differential ratio, suede/Alcantara steering wheel and shift knob as well as Recaro front racing seats and Red seatbelts.
This Sport Evolution is optioned with an electric sliding roof, power windows, air condition, radio and sound system. It has seen exceptional and meticulous ownership from new with documented service history. Originally sold in Germany, it then went to a collector in Japan in 1995 where it was kept in a private collection until 2017. In 2017, this M3 Evo was purchased by a German collector returned and returned to its homeland prior to being sold to its most previous owner-collector and imported to United States.
This M3 is complete with all original books and literature, stamped service booklet, tools, keys and its BMW Heritage Certificate. This M3 is one of the most sought-after cars in BMWs racing heritage. It is ready for immediate enjoyment and collectability.
