Description

Originally German delivered, left-hand drive M3 Johnny Cecotto indicating 81,688 miles (atoc)No230/505 finished in Macau Blue with black leather interiorin outstanding orderUnique features include M3 EvoII spoilers, thinner glass, body-coloured plenum/cam covers and 16"wheelsComplete history from new including original service book stamped up-to-date and German Registration papersA special edition of a very special car, a celebration of a legendary driver and the most successful 'Group A' Touring Car of all timeThe pedigree of the original E30 M3 is obvious all the way from its race-bred four-cylinder engine(designed to rev past 9000 RPM in race form) and dog-leg five-speed gearbox to those wheel arch blistersspecified, not to look cool on the Kings Road, but to accept slick tyres of up to 10in in width. It has a design purity and simplicity of specification that hardly any modern car, and certainly not a new M3 could hope to match. Admittedlytoday's M3 has double the power but it isn't all about BHP. To really understandthe M3 you need to get behind the wheel and drive one, and really drive it. Get hold of it by the scruff of the neck and give it the Full Monty and you'll be approaching automotive nirvana. Today the E30 M3 in any of its iterations is a wonderful device, but it's the way the car handles combining brilliantly crisp turn-in with unlikely stability and poise, that truly puts you in the seat of a car that, in its short life won a dozen Touring Car championships across the globe and made it without doubt BMWs finest car ever. The highly collectable Johnny Cecotto edition E30 M3 was produced to celebrate the many competition victories of their factory driver. This limited edition M3 was available to order in the same 3 paint finishes as the Evolution II; Macau Blue metallic, Nogaro Silver and Misano Red. Special features include; Evo II front and rear spoilers, thinner rear window glass, 16-inch wheels with black painted centres and a unique half-leather interior (full leather was available as an option). A plaque on the centre console of each car identifies its edition number with 505 examples in total, 26 of which were designated Roberto Ravaglia, nearly identical but made exclusively for the UK market and only available in Misano Red, honouring another highly successful factory driver.Offered here is E30 M3 Johnny Cecotto Edition number 230/505, first registered in Germany on 4th July 1989. Factory specified in Macau Blue with black leather interior, air-conditioning, heated seats, electric windows, electric sunshine roof, rear headrests, central locking and green top-tint windscreen. It was first registered in the UK in August 1997with an odometer indicating 99,090km and it would appear that an MPH speedo was fittedand calibrated to the correct mileage. Today, at the time of cataloguing, this stunning example is showing 81,688 miles and this recorded mileage is supported by a complete and comprehensive service history from new. Overall, this Cecottopresents beautifully, the paintwork has an even finish and the panel gaps are uniform across the car.Accompanying the car is a first aid kit, roadside assistance kit and all tools are present and correct. The aforementioned history file documents care and maintenance from new, including BMW book-pack with the original service book stamped up-to-date. The service stamps are mostly supported by paper invoices including complete BMW main dealer service history from Germany and a mix of specialist and main agent UK history. In 2014, a thorough schedule of maintenance had been conducted by a highly regarded E30 M3 specialist with a long list of works bringing this M3 up-to-date. Our vendor purchased JC #230 from Silverstone Auctions in 2015 and has correctly stored the car since enjoying it occasionally and has serviced the car to manufacturers specifications annually. In summary, this is a beautifully preserved and very special M3. The history file is one of the best we have seen and there is something very special about the colour of Macau blue, it suits the E30 M3 silhouette perfectly. These cars are rare, most being locked away, and this immaculate Cecotto, number 230/505is a must-have for all car collectors and enthusiasts alike. You can now book a one-to-one appointment (up to one hour) to view this lot at our central location Monday to Friday between Thursday 29th October - 12th November.
