- Subject to a comprehensive nut-and-bolt restoration from 2008 to 2014
In 1975, BMW launched the 528, prompting Alpina to launch its modified “B2” version. The tuned car featured a modified 230-horsepower 3.0-litre straight-six breathing through three double barrel carburettors. With a 0 to 100 km/h sprint time of just 6.9 seconds, and a top speed of 230 km/h, some enthusiasts consider the Alpina to be the first true performance BMW saloon.
Confirmed by Alpina to have passed through its workshop in May 1976, this example was first registered on the road in the same month. The first owner was Dr. Schmitt of Bernkastel-Kues, Germany, and this Alpina B2 remained in his ownership until March 1990. The B2 changed hands three more times, ending up in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler and the care of the fourth owner on 9 March 1992, but by 1996 the car had been taken off the road.
Discovered years later, this Alpina B2 was subject to a full nut-and-bolt restoration from 2008 to 2014. The body was restored, resprayed in white, and finished with Alpina decals. The engine, gearbox, rear axle, steering, and suspension were all rebuilt. It is accompanied by its original service book, boasting stamps up to 150,000 kilometres.
Acquired by the current owner in April 2015, this extremely rare Alpina B2 is said to have covered approximately 1,300 kilometres since its restoration. It sits on 16-inch Alpina wheels, but is accompanied by a refurbished set of factory-correct 14-inch wheels. To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/pa23.
