Added to the BMW 8 Series line-up in 1992, the 850 CSi became the top-performance offering for the Munich marque’s E31 generation. Powered by an enlarged version of the 850 Ci’s V-12 that was bored out to 5.6 litres, the high-spec model featured lighter pistons, forged crankshaft and a freer-flowing exhaust. The resulting product produced 375 horsepower and was capable of reaching 100 km/h from a standstill in just 5.9 seconds. The only transmission available was a six-speed manual gearbox, while the suspension was lowered and stiffened. The car sat on staggered wheels with both front and rear bumpers redesigned for improved aerodynamics. Just 1,510 850 CSis were built, and good examples are highly sought after by collectors.
This 850 CSi left the Dingolfing factory on 17 February 1995, finished in Calypso Metallic Red over a Black leather interior. This E31 was one of six destined for Sweden and first registered on 12 April 1995. This well-specified 8 Series left the factory with an electric sunblind, heated seats with lumbar support, and an “M” leather steering wheel.
Spending all its life in Sweden, this 850 CSi has service stamps dating back to 1995, and boasts just four owners from new. On 25 August 2022, the car underwent a major service by the vintage and modern classic specialists at Motikon of Uppsala, Sweden, and received four new tyres. At the time of cataloguing, the odometer read 84,789 kilometres.
