With the debut of the E318-Series in 1990, BMW sought to not only replace, but also significantly improve the venerable E24 6-Series, which ended its 14-year production run in 1989. The new model featured an extremely low hood line with retractable headlights, improved drag coefficient, pillarless design, and a V-12 engine mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. The new BMW 850 was expensive, exclusive and, from any angle, staggeringly beautiful. A variety of engines and options were available, but the 1,510 examples of the 850 CSi were, by any metric, the most special. The CSi accounted for less than 5% of total 850 series production and was the only E31 variant to receive a BMW motor sport–prepared S-code engine – which was rated at 372 hp and fed by revised Bosch fuel injection.

This bright red 850 CSi is accented by a black leather interior, and was first sold by Tom Bush Regency Motors in Jacksonville, Florida. According to its CARFAX Vehicle History Report, it received regular service, and appears to have been minimally driven over the past decade, with just over 1,200 miles added since 2010, for a total of 74,983 at the time of cataloguing. It is offered with a copy of its window sticker and its accompanying tool set. Destined to be a classic since its introduction, the 850 CSi capably served as BMW’s two-door flagship model during its short production, and this winged coupe stands as a shining surviving example.
