The product of almost ten years of research and development at a cost of over 1.5 billion DM, the 8 Series was aimed at a different market and priced accordingly, introducing BMW buyers to an unmatched level of performance and luxury. Added to the BMW 8 Series line-up in 1992, the 850 CSi became the top-performance offering for the Munich marque's E31 generation.

Powered by an enlarged version of the 850 Ci's V-12 that was bored out to 5.6 litres, the high-spec model featured lighter pistons, forged crankshaft and a freer-flowing exhaust. The resulting product produced 375 horsepower and was capable of reaching 100 km/h from a standstill in just 5.7 seconds. It also featured a revised suspension setup to harness the extra power, featuring a lower stance and stiffer springs and dampers. The steering was modified with a quicker ratio, and reassuringly, the brakes were uprated with floating ventilated discs. Even the wing mirrors were resculpted to improve aerodynamics, alongside reshaped front and rear bumpers. Naturally, it was only offered with a manual six-speed gearbox so as not to dilute the driving experience. Just 1,510 850 CSis were built, and great examples like this are highly sought after by collectors.

Chassis 0299, this well-specified, extraordinarily preserved and highly serviced 850CSi (both of which are not common in 850s) offers an exciting opportunity for Roundel admirers to acquire an exceptional example of one most desirable BMW of the era. With relatively low miles of 127k km's approximately 79k miles this collector owned and well cared for 850CSi is available now for worldwide purchase and delivery from our Houston, Texas showroom.
