Description
Chassis No. 85419
Engine No. 85419
This extraordinary BMW 328 represents one of the most elegant interpretations of BMW's legendary pre-war sports car. Clothed in bespoke Cabriolet coachwork from German coachbuilder Wendler, this example combines the model's renowned performance credentials with a level of luxury and refinement rarely seen in its contemporaries.
Chassis 85419 was first registered on 2 July 1940, and according to previous research, boasts previous ownership by Rudolf Graf von der Schulenburg-Wolfburg-a notable BMW executive director who later served as President of the German Automobile Club and held membership within the FIA. In 1993, the BMW underwent a comprehensive photo documented frame-off restoration, with the work completed later that year. Following this painstaking work, the car made its post-restoration debut at a Automobilclub von Deutschland (AvD) event at a Munich dealership in 1994, followed by an AvD event celebrating 60 years of the BMW 328 in 1996.
In 2009, the Wendler Cabriolet appeared at the exclusive 2009 Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, where it stood among the world's finest automobiles. Its active history continued with participation in the 2010 Südsteiermark Classic and the 2012 Gaisberg Rennen.
Today, the Cabriolet is accompanied by extensive documentation including restoration images, registration papers, and a FIVA identity card designating it as a Class A3 historic vehicle. Perhaps most importantly, the car retains its original matching-numbers engine according to its BMW Group Classic Birth Certificate.
This BMW 328 offers its next owner the opportunity to acquire a coachbuilt and thoroughly documented example of one of BMW's most celebrated pre-war model.
