What a picture huh? This BMW E9 2800CS was delivered new in 1970 and has been in the Netherlands since 1992. The car has been fully restored and overhauled during two years. The car was overhauled to near mint condition. The previous owner took perfect care of the car for thirty years. The condition the car is still in can only be described as incredibly good.
The Karmann designed body still looks great. The sheet metal is nice and thin and the fits are correct. The chrome bumpers and chrome moldings are also in very good condition, as are the original rims and lamps. The paint was very well sprayed at the time and, thanks to the fact that the car has been in a heated garage for most of its life, it has not lost any of its shine. The original wheels are fitted with good tires in the correct sizes.
The interior is lined with beautiful blue velvet. The inside was completely reupholstered during the restoration. The wood on the dashboard looks beautiful as do the instruments and controls. The gear knob was also replaced at the time and still looks beautiful. The carpets fit neatly everywhere and are also in good condition. The headliner was completely renewed during the restoration and also looks beautiful. The velor upholstery on the seats is still in very good condition. The seats were refilled during the restoration and are still very comfortable.
The technology has been completely dismantled. Not only the engine and transmission, but also the differential and the brakes have been completely renewed. The undercarriage, all rubbers of the suspension, all pipes, all seals, everything and everything has been taken care of and renewed during the restoration. After the restoration, the car has always been well maintained and still drives wonderfully. The engine is 2.8 liters in size and in this case equipped with two carburettors and delivers 168 hp at 6,000 rpm. It is enough for Wilhelm Hofmeister's masterpiece to drive effortlessly with modern traffic. The engine is mated to a four-speed manual transmission. The transmission shifts wonderfully precisely and fits perfectly with the sporty character of this beautiful German coupé.
The car is fantastically documented through an enormous amount of photos and invoices of the work carried out and the maintenance performed afterwards. We rarely see a car of this caliber documented in this way. In short, not only a beautiful BMW 2800CS to see but also a pleasure to drive. A car with an impeccable history and a solid future.
