Description

This 1961 BMW R69S is a lovely example that appears to never have been fully restored and retains an inviting patina. It is an early R69S, the top-of-the-line model in the company’s 1960s lineup and was sold new to Billie K. Hummel of Detroit, according to the 1961 title, which still remains on file. Mr. Hummel retained the motorcycle for 22 years until it was acquired by its next long-term owner, a noted BMW enthusiast in the Atlanta area.

This R69S is fitted with desirable equipment, including the 6.5-gallon Schorsch Meier sport tank, European handlebars, Hella bar-end turn signals, solo seat, and Albert mirrors. Although the tank and several other areas may have been painted, many original details abound and the bike is accompanied by an original BMW tool roll and shop rag.

Approximately 10 years ago, BMW authority Blue Moon Cycle of Norcross, Georgia, serviced the R69S, as documented by records on file. The company installed a Brown side stand, adjusted the throttle, tuned the carbs, and installed a new coil and condenser, among other items. For the collector who appreciates unrestored motorcycles, this early production R69S will make a lasting impression. Examples such as this do not appear for sale often, making this a great opportunity to experience the legendary quality for which BMW motorcycles of this era are known.
