"The Bentley Turbo R was a high-performance model produced by Bentley Motors Limited. It initially inherited the turbocharged engine from the Mulsanne Turbo and also sported a re-tuned suspension and wider tyres on alloy wheels, quite a departure for a Bentley. From the 1987 model year, however, the Turbo R's V8 engine was re-tuned with new Bosch MK-Motronic fuel injection for added torque. Other modifications carried out at the same time included new sports seats and a higher rear axle ratio. Motor Trend called the Turbo R 'the first Bentley in decades deserving of the famous name' in their review of the car on its introduction to the United States in 1989.
The suspension changes, though seemingly subtle, transformed the heavy car into a real performer. Anti-roll bar rates were increased by 60% at the front and 80% at the rear and tuned dampers were added. A Panhard rod was also introduced, reducing side-to-side movement in corners. Spring rates remained the same as on the Mulsanne. Although official figures were never provided by Rolls-Royce, Motor Trend estimated the power output at 296bhp with 486lb/ft of torque. The Turbo R slotted above the Bentley Mulsanne S and Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit and it carved a well deserved niche in the world of performance saloons.This lovely example is presented in Cobalt Blue with magnolia leather interior, which some say is the best combination for these majestic luxury cars. This particular car is to Mulliner specification including mesh grilles (a very expensive factory option when new) wheels, steering wheel and side vents. The present owner purchased it in 2010 and has used it regularly since. There is a considerable amount of history with the car and is a fine example which still has so much presence on the road today as it did when first manufactured. Please note that the private number plate currently with the car is being retained by the present owner and not being sold with the car."
