Using an aluminium 6,230cc V8 engine in place of the old 4,887cc six cylinder unit which had been phased out in 1959, the S2 model was developed from the Bentley S1 on the same chassis. Automatic transmission, power steering and servo brakes combined to make a superb grand touring car. Despite the increasing trend of the factory towards body standardisation, a number of bespoke designs were produced by the few remaining coachbuilders. One of the most successful and highly regarded of these body styles, which lasted throughout the three S series, was the four-door Flying Spur by H J Mulliner.
