Description

Bentley MK VI Windovers Drophead Coupé 1947
What a delight for us at Marreyt Classics to present this select Bentley to our classic car friends and customers!
Although after the 2-nd WW Bentley launched the Bentley MK VI as a standard steel saloon, Sir Alexander Roger KCIE from London ordered in November 1946 this unique Bentley MK VI (chassis B108-AK) which was coachbuilt upon his specific request as a concealed hood Drophead Coupé by the London based coachbuilders Windovers, who’s work was apparently highly appreciated by the King of Norway, the King of Spain and the Prince of Wales

After a positive test report from the 19-th of July 1947 B108AK was ready for delivery.

In May 1950 Sir Alexander Roger sells his Bentley to the 2-nd owner. Most of the successive owners are listed on the Bentley Factory file and in the cars’ history file.

After some years in Canada this Bentley re-appears in the hands of the well known RR and Bentley dealer David Baldock. In need of a full restoration this Bentley ends-up early 90-ies with a very enthousiast collector, Mr. H.J.T. Channing, from the Channel Islands who start-up a comprehensive restoration executed by the RR & Bentley specialists J&M Bentley and Partners and the Marque specialists Frank Dale & Stepsons.
It is absolutely necessary to have a look at the enormous list of invoices to understand the no expences spared effort invested to obtain this simply immaculately restored Bentley.
This thorough restoration included a new ash frame, complete panelwork restoration, and replating of all the brightwork.
Also the mechanics were upgraded with a 4½-litre Bentley R-Type engine and automatic transmission (the original engine had a cracked block and was unserviceable). A donor R-Type was purchased (chassis number 'B236WH') and the engine, gearbox, rear differential (with long-legged ratio) and steering column were removed, overhauled and fitted to 'B108AK'.
At the same time Oselli Engineering modified the engine and gas flowed the cylinder head plus fitted an R-Type Continental exhaust which provided clearly increased power and torque.
The final result is a show winning presentation in Brewster Green with a dark green mohair hood. The spectacular burr walnut wood fineer combines lovely with dark green Connolly upholstery.
As could be expected the driving sensation on the road is just fabulous with notably more performance than a Standard Mark VI in combination with a relaxed long legged gait.
This rare coachbuilt Bentley MkVI drophead comes with a complete selection of original small and large tools, and an extensive history file documenting the works carried out over the past 20 years.
