Unveiled in 2003 at the Geneva Motor Show, the Continental GT was a different animal altogether, a world apart from its genteel predecessors, the Continental R and T models in terms of concept. Although much of the car is hand assembled, it is not a coachbuilt car but utilises modern production techniques, thereby considerably reducing the labour content and consequently the build cost. As a result, the price at launch was proportionately less than the Continental R (approximately half) and this immediately exposed the car to an entirely different and much wider customer base.
The Crewe-built car's statistics were impressive with twin-turbo VAG 6.0-litre W12 engines, developed in the VW Phaeton and stillborn W12 sports car, producing. 552bhp and 479lb ft torque. This prodigious output was fed through a six-speed automatic box from the new Audi A8, and distributed by the Quattro four-wheel drive system. 0-60 in 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 196mph were remarkable numbers for a car of this stature.
This outstanding, one owner, Barnato Green Bentley Continental GT has been cherished from day one and then some, having covered less than 5,000 miles from new and accompanied by a comprehensive service record. This exceptional Grand Tourer, which has formed part of a small family collection in recent years, as you would expect, is in stunning condition and must surely be one of the lowest mileage examples of its age, available today. An example of the care and attention showered upon the GT is shown by recently fitted new tyres, not because of wear but because the owner was conscious of their age, proof indeed that this is one owner that you would be delighted to purchase a vehicle from. With all services required carried out by the supplying dealer, Bentley Hadley Green, now Bentley Hertfordshire, with its last service just completed and a fresh MOT issued, this particular Continental comes highly recommended and presents an unrepeatable opportunity for the collector or for those amongst us that like a little luxury in our lives.
