This preservation-class Austin America is an example of a car that has mostly vanished from today’s roads. A variant of BMC’s ADO16 platform, the Austin America used an 1,100-cc BMC A-Series inline four-cylinder in a front-wheel-drive platform designed by Alec Issigonis and intended to be a step up from the Mini. Styling was by Pininfarina.

This example was sold new in Minneapolis, Minnesota to a couple who used it for limited errand running duties. After moving to Kansas, the car was not driven much, being stored in a basement garage after 1985 due to failure of the liquid suspension. This may have been the car’s saving grace as it accounts for its remarkable level of preservation. The Austin shows nearly all its original paint as well as original interior upholstery and surfaces. The indicated mileage of just over 29,000 is understood to be original and is in keeping with its overall condition. Equipped with an automatic transmission, it is a classic that anyone can drive with ease.

It is most certainly going to be the only Austin America at your local car show!To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/0120.
