Description

By far, the most sporting member of the newly revised Auburn line was the sleek, Alan Leamy-designed Speedster that debuted in 1931. This impressively presented 8-98A Speedster is finished in a highly attractive black and red color scheme, enhanced by a contrasting grille and beltline, as well as red, tail-accentuating catwalks.

Originally sold in New Jersey, this stylish Speedster made its way through multiple owners before being acquired by noted American collector Al Ferrara of Gates Mills, Ohio in 1952. Following his acquisition, Mr. Ferrara entrusted the Auburn to Dallas Winslow at the Auburn factory facilities to carry out an extensive restoration, which included an engine replacement of the same type. The award-winning results are documented in Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg (ACD) newsletters. The Speedster has also participated in multiple ACD Annual Reunions – a further testament to the lasting quality of the restoration. Mr. Ferrara sold the Auburn in 1961, and the Speedster has benefited from the ownership of only three additional collectors before being acquired by the consignor in 2010. It has since been used sparingly and serviced as needed, with invoices available on file. Offered with a well-documented ownership history detailed in the ACD Club verification documents on file, this 8-98A is a superb example of the sophisticated styling of the era and the timeless beauty that made the Auburn Speedster a true automotive icon.
