Description
Back in the 30s Auburn, together with Cord and Duesenberg, was one of the most luxurious American brands. The price of a new Ford V8 cabriolet in 1932 stood at $650 but a new Auburn 8-100A Phaeton Sedan with a powerful inline 8 and a 2-speed differential would set you back a whopping 1’295 dollars. No wonder then, that only 855 of those noble cabriolets found willing buyers. The example offered here was delivered new in Switzerland and customs duties were paid on the 23rd of November 1932 in Zurich. The history of the noble American is not known but apparently it was owned by a kitchen appliance manufacturer from Aesch before, many years later, it ended up in a Trimbach breakers yard. At the beginning of the 90s, a restoration was started but in 2004 the car was sold to the mechanic who had started the works. He continued the restoration of the four-door cabriolet and over the following seven years most of the work was performed by himself. The car was completely disassembled, the coachwork reconstructed and repainted, a new interior and soft top were manufactured, and all mechanical components were overhauled. Photos and invoices of all the work performed are available and will be handed over with the car. In September 2011 the monstrous task was finally rewarded with a veteran MOT but since then this imposing cabriolet has only been driven around 1’500 kilometres and has spent most of its time in the small collection of the garage owner. After his demise the family has now decided to sell the car. The Auburn still presents itself in wonderful condition and is offered with the latest veteran MOT performed in March 2025.
