The car we are offering for sale is one of the exclusive series of 40 V600s built by Aston Martin to celebrate the company's victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1959, with the DBR 1 driven by Roy Salvadori and Carroll Shelby. It also marked the swansong of the Virage, which had in turn succeeded the particularly long-lived Aston Martin V8. The V600 Le Mans had a 5.4-litre V8 which produced more than 600 bhp, thanks to twin Eaton superchargers, enabling it to accelerate from 0-100 kph in less than 5 seconds. The chassis benefitted from changes to the suspension and brakes to handle this impressive level of performance. From the outside, the car could be recognised by its radiator grille with two large openings next to the headlamps. The body was made from aluminium.
This example is one of the 40 V8 Vantage Le Mans V600s and was ordered new by H.H. Abdulaziz Al Thani through Auto Performance Parts, the company's French importer. It left the factory with right-hand drive but was immediately converted to left-hand drive. In 2010, with 25,141 km on the clock, it was given an official service by Aston Martin. In 2019, at 27,292 km, a further service was carried out, and in 2020 the car was registered in the Netherlands. Sold with its owner's manual and tool kit, it represents a fine opportunity to acquire an extreme and exceedingly rare machine, as only 40 were built, which is also one of the last traditional Aston Martins before the arrival of the DB7.
