Description

The DB4 GT Zagato, a honed lightweight race car which is not only hugely competitive on the circuit, but isn’t too bad at achieving over 6 figures at auction. Registration “2 VEV” sold for over £10m at the Goodwood sale. Later limited-run models released by the duo include the 1986 V8 Vantage Zagato, the 2002 DB7 Vantage Zagato and then the road and race model of the 2011 V12 Vantage Zagato. Each of the hand-crafted auto cars receiving a strong following and consequently a firm market positioning.

The concept Vanquish Zagato was first shown at Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este in May 2016. Available in 4 distinct body styles, 99 examples of each of the Coupe, Volante and Shooting Brake were built, but the Speedster was limited to just 28 examples, with just 7 destined for the UK.

Clothed in a bespoke carbon fibre body, the Zagato Speedster is a distant throw from its Vanquish S underpinnings. Finished in a unique and bespoke colour, a modern twist of Aston Martin Racing Green, a colour synonymous with racing history and more recently the chosen launch colour for the two most recent Aston Martin Zagato drop-tops – the DB AR1 Zagato and DB9 Spyder Zagato Centennial.

A wealth of design features around the car pay particular homage to Aston Martin and Zagato’s symbiotic relationship spanning some five decades. The Vanquish Zagato’s glasshouse wraps around the bodywork like a visor, emphasising its aggressive stance.

Penned by Marek Reichmann of Aston Martin as his interpretation of all of the best bits of both brands, the Vanquish Zagato features the ‘blade’ tail lights inspired by the Aston Martin Vulcan and whilst the famous ‘Double-Bubble’ roof is absent, the elegant carbon fibre buttresses behind the cockpit make for a fantastic nod to the DBAR1 and original DBR1 race car. The front grille is made from a bespoke pattern of 3D Zagato ‘Z’ motifs.

The fettled 6.0 V12 now omits an even mightier howl; making each and every journey quite the occasion. The suspension features a revised geometry to balance the lighter bodywork. This example is fitted with the highly desirable Villa d’Este Pack comprising of individual additional styling upgrades, highlights of which include the flamboyant bronze anodised strakes, bronze wheel detailing and interior graduated ‘Z’ quilting.

Having covered just 800 miles from registration in 2018 at the hands of its sole keeper, this Speedster is accompanied by a thorough service record. Returning to its supplying dealership for annual oil changes regardless of mileage, the maintenance book is stamped accordingly.

This fastidiously cared for example presents superbly and is currently available to view immediately at our showrooms just outside London.
