Arriving in 1977, the Aston Martin V8 Vantage represented somewhat of a return to form for the storied British manufacturer, combining impressive performance with cosseting grand touring appointments in the way that only the best British cars could. A year later, the V8 Vantage ‘Oscar India’ arrived, featuring a closed bonnet bulge where there used to be a scoop, an aggressive front air dam, and a blanked-off front grille—the look of a supercar.
But it wasn’t until close to 10 years after its launch that the car was fitted with the engine it had arguably always deserved. Introduced to the world at the 1986 British International Motor Show, the ultimate manifestation of the muscular V8 Vantage’s appearance was the car that would become known to enthusiasts as the ‘X-Pack’.
Final examples of the V8 Vantage were fitted with the uprated V580X engine found in the V8 Zagato. Equipped with four dual-barrel Weber carburettors, high-compression Cosworth pistons, and larger valves and intake manifold, this high-performance engine produced over 400 brake horsepower from its 5.3-litre capacity—and made the car a genuine 200 mph supercar capable of competing with, and eclipsing many, contemporary rivals.
Delivered new in December 1987, this attractive V8 Vantage ‘X-Pack’ is a UK-market right-hand-drive example specified new in Winchester Blue over a Magnolia hide interior with dark blue piping and Magnolia Onslow-edged Blue carpets, and a tasteful Fawn headliner, the specification in which it remains today. This car is one of just 137 ‘X-Pack’ cars which were produced and features include Ronal wheels, a three-speed automatic gearbox, walnut trims, a blue leather dashboard top and steering wheel, front driving lights, white instrument dials, and now a contemporary Alpine radio head unit with Bluetooth connectivity.
Please note, this vehicle will require recommissioning prior to road use.
This example is now offered from storage after years of ownership in a private collection of vehicles based in the Middle East. Accompanied by its original build sheet, bill of sale, and tool kit, this V8 Vantage ‘X-Pack’ would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
Please note this lot has entered the UK on a temporary import bond, which must be cancelled either by exporting the lot outside of the UK on an approved Bill of Lading with supporting customs documentation or by paying the applicable VAT and import duties to have the lot remain in the UK.
