In the mid-1970s, Aston Martin went through a difficult period following the sale of the brand by David Brown. The V8 was the only model in the range. At the time, convertibles were in short supply and demand was high, especially on the American market. So the engineers at Newport Pannel began work on a V8 Cabriolet. In June 1978, the V8 Volante was launched.
The first Aston Martin convertible since the DB6 Volante, it retained the elegance of the V8 coupé whether the roof was open or closed, a rare feature for a convertible.
One of the very first to be produced, this car left the factory on 8 February 1979 and was intended for the European market, as confirmed by its Aston Martin certificate. It was first registered in Switzerland in March 1979. It would remain there until at least the end of the 1980s. It was then imported into Italy, where it remained for more than 25 years before being acquired by its current owner.
In fine overall condition, this Aston Martin V8 Volante is a true supercar. A V8 convertible with mechanical gearbox, this Aston Martin is a collector's item not to be missed.
