The definition of the word Vantage is "a position giving a strategic advantage, commanding perspective, or comprehensive view". The name "Vantage" has long been the label given to only Aston Martin's most high-performance variants, this dating back to the Feltham produced DB2 era.
The 1977 V8 Vantage, marked a bold new era when launched as a standalone model with distinctive styling and a potent 400-horsepower V-8 engine. Capable of 0–60 mph in 5.2 seconds and a top speed of 170 mph, the new Vantage reigned as the Britain's Frist Supercar and for time was acknowledged as the World's Fastest Production Car. While the Vantage retained much of the standard model's body lines, it was update to include several defining elements such as its front air dam, modified bonnet and "fliptail" rear end spoiler, all for improved aerodynamics. Initially the bonnet plug and rear decklid spoiler were bolted to the bolt to the bodywork. After the first 16 cars were produced, the bonnet plug and rear fliptail spoiler were fully integrated to the bodywork. Thus, the first 16 V8 Vantages became known as by the factory and enthusiast "Bolt-On Fliptail" V8 Vantage versions.
Due to their being the first of the V8 Vantage model range, these Bolt-On Fliptail variants have become some of the most rare and sought after of the V8 Aston model range as well as achieving supercar status of the era and one of the rarest Aston Martin models to leave their famed Newport Pagnell factory.
The V8 Vantage on offer is one of these first 16 cars produced. Its early UK history and ownership is well known, it was AMOC member owned and cared for throughout its UK ownerships. Circa 2015 it was purchased by a Canadian enthusiast who exported it from the UK and imported to Canada. Already in excellent mechanical condition and cosmetic condition, during 2017 this V8 Vantage was entrusted to RSP Motorsports of Komoka, Ontario for a cosmetic restoration, color change to its current Silver, its interior also being retrimmed to Brown and finally a conversion from RHD to LHD was performed. Kept in this ownership for several years, this V8 Vantage was sold during 2020 and crossed the border to become a resident of the East Coast of The United States. The V8 Vantage was kept in this ownership through 2020 when it was once again sold to new ownership. At this time, the Vantage crossed the continent and took on California residency where it has been enjoyed until our recent purchase.
While in its California ownership, the V8 Vantage was entrusted to well-known and respected service-restoration specialists, Fast Cars of Redondo Beach for over $50,000 service to ensure its being kept in top condition throughout. Fast Cars performed the following: Complete recommissioning of the suspension, braking, and clutch systems, new engine belts and hoses, a rebuilt water pump, ultrasonic gas tank cleaning, new wood gauge panel veneer as well as various interior electronics to ensure all would be presented and functioning properly. It has since been used and enjoyed sparingly within its California ownership.
At the beginning of 2025 the V8 Vantage was once again offered for sale. Given the opportunity to purchase this rare V8 Vantage beast, we of course, jumped at the chance. While in Autosport Designs ownership, this V8 Vantage Bolt-On Fliptail has been serviced cosmetically and mechanically by us to allow it a proper and care free start in its next ownership and befitting Autosport Designs becoming part of this rare V8 Vantage ownership and maintenance history.
Power, Performance, Condition and Rarity. This truly offers the opportunity to own a very special, rare Aston Martins that is truly unique. As a colleague of mine said, it is "a brute in a suit" given its muscle car performance and bespoke British Saville Row elegance. We are proud to offer this rare V8 Vantage "Bolted-On Fliptail" to market.
