Following the success of the DB2, Aston Martin introduced the DB2/4 in 1953 with variations designed to broaden the cars functionality and appeal. A 2.6-litre, six-cylinder engine was initially standard, though the larger 3.0-litre motor arrived in 1954 to compensate for the redesigned DB2/4s additional weight. This engine provided the 190 km/h top speed, making the Aston Martin one of Great Britains finest sports cars at the time. When the production run ended in 1957, 761 examples had been built. Of these, only 199 of the rare Mk II variant were made, featuring the larger 3.0 engine, a slightly raised roofline for improved passenger headroom, minor interior changes, and a fly-off hand brake.
This Mk II left the factory with two-tone Ice Blue and Blue/Grey paintwork over Burgundy Connolly leather and was delivered to R.W. Raven of London in 1957. By 1984 the car had been acquired by a J.B. Williams of Sheffield. Williams kept the car until March 2013, when it was bought by its next owner, a resident of Warwick, who took it to the 2013 Tour Auto Rally in April. In May that year, the Mk II joined The Curated Collection. Presented with its matching-numbers engine and offered with a copy of its factory build sheet, this Aston Martin would be a charming addition to the garage of any enthusiast.
